So, a year on after Cho Oyu, Klara is once more back in Kathmandu. It’s blisteringly hot again and the markets are teeming with people as the last few items for the trek are procured. The thirty kilos of cargo, sent from Prague a week ago, is barely the tip of the expedition equipment iceberg! Unfortunately the jacket (which was Klara’s intended expedition present for Tashi) no longer fits the svelte figure it was intended for – this guy has obviously put on weight as part of his final preparation for the trek and is evidently now well prepared! Klara and Tashi are both leaving for Lhasa on April 3rd – their Chinese visas are already booked. If the weather is clear, the flight will offer a wonderful view of the Himalaya, including the summits of Makalu, Kangchejunga and (of course!) Everest. As one of the highest capitals in the world, at 3600 meters, Lhasa will present them both with their first acclimatization challenge of the trip!
