Klára

Klára Poláčková (born 1978)
Klara was born by the peaceful Vltava river in Prague which has undoubtedly contributed to her sense of adventure and curiosity about life, A professional communications manager, sportswoman and mountaineer, Klara has tremendous energy, a great zest for life, and is constantly seeking new challenges, of which this Expedition is the latest in a long line.

Klara gained a degree in business management at the Anglo-American College in Prague in 2000. Whilst there, she worked as a PR manager for a foreign company to fund her studies but also crucially found time to develop her excellent tennis, and skiing abilities, to further her keen interest in theatre, cinema, ballet and the opera, to pass a sub aqua scuba diving course in the Adriatic, and even took the opportunity to climb her first serious mountain (Mt. Blanc).

An exacting posting as regional communications manager “meeting, briefing and brainstorming” (as the Czech anthem neatly encapsulates it) at Euro RSCG New Europe Company then followed (2000–2003.) and it was this intensive practical experience which was to lead to her gaining the opportunity to apply her skills in London at Central Euro RSCG Worldwide in 2003–2004.

Whilst in London, Klara has continued to further develop those skills she honed in College. Her triumph at the LTA tournament at the prestigious Queens Club was a major achievement and, whilst continuing to make the most of the great cultural opportunities which London provides, her disciplined approach to her work, sport and leisure activities has led to her significant successes in completing two major mountaineering expeditions in successive years:

In 2004-2006, Klara extended her knowledge of internal communications working for the Human Resources Directorate in the Department for Constitutional Affairs but also took time out in 2005 to visit South America and climb Aconcagua (6.962m).

In May 2006 Klara scaled her first 8000m mountain, becoming only the second Czech woman in history to conquer Cho Oyu (8.201m) in an expedition under the leadership of her friend, the experienced mountaineer, Tashi Tenzing.
Following a contract as a Communications Consultant with the Department of Health in the UK, Klara is now returning to the Himalaya where her friend Tashi and EVEREST are waiting to undertake perhaps the biggest challenge of them all...
